GUEST SPEAKER
Joe Kistel from TISIRI http://www.tisiri.org/ announced that there is a lot going on in the reef world. RECENT Placements:
23 miles SE of St. Augustine, 500 tons of concrete placed 2940419 8058370
New reef off Jax, 700 tons, concrete culverts placed last Thursday, July 28 Joe dove it today, already has sea bass, Triggers, and a bunch of fish already (70’ water, 21 miles from Jetties) Joe shared some pictures
3010296 8109069
In 2009 Big box culverts – concrete, loaded with fish, coral and sponge growth. Seabass, spade fish, flounder, and jewfish. It is about a quarter of a mile SE of the other number above (also 21 miles from Jetties)
3010034 8109322
St Augustine inlet – Bridge of Lions.. Sea Bass, Spadefish, Trigger
Joe said it’s exciting when you see all the stuff on the reefs placed, that means they are doing what they are intended to do!!!
Joe stated that TISIRI is a 501c3 non-profit organization focusing efforts in reef creation, environmental conservation, and reef related education. TISIRI stands for “Think It, Sink It, Reef It”. They currently have 22 active permits to place reefs. Visiting the placement sites, then have to present to the city, then get fiscal support. Joe asked the JOSFC club if it is something that is an interest to the club.
Two grants in the past four years from state and city, very hard to get. Cannot count on grants. If a private corporation funds, they can name the reef for the company. Cost usually around $100,000 to get a reef out and placed.
The TISIRI website has a map, click on it, shows what is on it and the GPS number. Club member stated AWESOME Camera work on the website http://www.tisiri.org/jacksonville-reef-map.html
Joe talked about the reef within three miles – needs a day to get visibility. JOSFC to help. Help find the site, help getting the TISIRI folks out there to check out the spot for the site, and help fishing a big company to help them out with setting the reef.. if anyone knows of a company that may be interested in helping out, financially supporting to get this done, please put in touch with Joe.

TISIRI has two large vessels to sink one is 200’ (size of The Anna). They already have the tow taken care of. This one will cost about $200,000 to place. They have a good relationship with the Navy, hoping to maybe get Navy to help.
If you know anyone that can hook Joe and TISIRI up with the right people, please again let him know. Very hard to get government grants.
Very informative speech.. thank you Joe and TISIRI!

TOPIC
Chris Rooney stated from the club bylaws, Article X – removal of officers, directors and members- Section 1 “Upon the recommendation of the majority of the board of directors subject to a majority vote of the general membership present at any regular meeting under Article IX any officer, director or member shall be removed from office and or expelled from the membership of the corporation” PART B- Malicious public embarrassment of any corporation member or guests. PART C. Public lewd or immoral conduct. He brought this up due to Pat and Tammy McVea (family membership) chose to keep the money from the ladies sailfish pot winnings and not throw the party in 2011- doing so put undue stress on the ladies party and other members of the club to make sure the party went on. This has been a tradition for many years, and they tried to stop it. Chris brought up to the members at the meeting that Mr McVea have his membership revoked. Motion made, everyone was in favor to him revoked. No one opposed. Motion carried. McVeas are no longer members of JOSFC.
RAFFLE
Rod and reel, bucket, lures, hats, hooks, bags, lots of stuff !
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50pm
Respectfully submitted,
Alison Thornton JOSFC Secretary
