JOSFC Regular Meeting Minutes

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS    

The meeting was called to order at 8:02pm.
Russ Brodie and Justin Solomon from FWCC contacted the JOSFC members who are interested in the Red Snapper Tagging Program Seminar which will be held on January 17th at 6:00pm in the MSRI building 2nd floor room 214. A map for directions & parking to the MSRI building on the JU Campus was e-mailed to Bill Breen to post.
If you have not renewed your club membership, please do so or your fish will be removed off the board(s).
Frank Joura spoke regarding the El Cheapo Tournament coming up on February 25th ~  
* Colored Posters are out, please grab some and post! Bait and tackle shops will also have them posted. Pushing for 400 boats would like to have 500!
* First Place is a 18’ Carolina Skiff with Mercury 75HP/4 stroke with trailer donated by Magic Tilt, second place is A 4-Wheeler (ATV), third place is $1750 in cash, fourth place is $1250 in cash and all other prizes are similar to last year
     * Junior Angler prizes are bigger and better!
     * January 26th at 7:30pm is the Volunteer meeting. We need volunteers especially for the cooking. We need two full crews.
     *Registration on-line is open
     * Great items to sell ~ t-shirts, hats, and special event shirt “Got Fiddlers” with a sheepshead on the side and so much more!
     * If you catch a fish ~ weight it, this is the year for the big one!

HOSPITALITY

   

Chef Larry, Carol & Ray Chancey prepared Bacon Cheese Burgers along with potato salad, green tossed salad, variety of chips as sides and so many great deserts to choose from!

GUEST SPEAKER    

Guest Speaker ~ Steve Grant, of C & H Lures.  Steve gave a seminar on offshore trolling for Wahoo ~ his speciality! Steve went over setup, rigs, plainers, areas to fish, best temperatures to fish, depth of water, etc. If you want to catch a Wahoo, leave the bottom reels at home!

MEMBERSHIP        

Unpaid members will lose their fish on “boards” if membership is not renewed by TONIGHT ~ Thursday (January 5th), verification of memberships will be completed before the end of the night.
Welcome Ken Buckston! He has been a member for many years, but tonight was the first time attending.

According to the FWC Law Enforcement; website below is the best reference when looking up which fish species are opened or closed. Keep in mind changes daily.

New Fishing Rules book has been updated and printed as a 8x11 ~ readable booklet. Copies (120) are available at the club house.
The JOSFC Fishing schedule will be passed out once confirmed with the SKA schedule, to prevent any conflicts.

Website is doing well. Currently, a direct link for the El Cheapo entry site has been established and operational. Carol verified that PayPal is active.

Vacuuming honors for winning of the Rod/reel went to Zack Blalock ~ Congratulations !
